Christmas Yearly Rituals: Does the World Understand?

Centuries ago, humanity took a misstep and disobeyed God’s command. Misled by Satan, Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, altering the course of existence forever. Before this tragic moment, the serpent, like other animals, walked upright. However, when Satan inhabited the serpent and succeeded in deceiving Eve, the serpent was cursed to crawl on its belly for eternity.

As a consequence of their disobedience, Adam and Eve were also expelled from the Garden of Eden, losing their home and access to God’s direct presence. They relocated to the earth as we know it, a domain already occupied by Satan. Along with this relocation came the sentence of death, not only for them but for all their descendants. Humanity was now forced to coexist with Satan and the rebellious spirits who sided with him—demons.

Despite this fall, God extended a glimmer of hope through His declaration:
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

Since then, the story of humanity has been marked by a battle between good and evil. Wickedness consumed the earth:
“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” (Genesis 6:5)

But God, in His mercy, set a plan of reconciliation into motion. Humanity needed a Savior to rescue it from sin, death, and itself. Through the prophet Isaiah, God foretold the coming of this Savior:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)

This prophecy was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, whose mission was to restore mankind to God, bring peace, and eradicate wickedness. The virgin birth was foretold:
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14), meaning God with us.

Micah also prophesied the birthplace of the Messiah:
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times… He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord… and he will be our peace.” (Micah 5:2, 4-5)

When the time came, the angel of the Lord announced the Savior’s birth to shepherds in the fields:
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)

The birth of Jesus marked the fulfillment of God’s promise. His mission was clear: to teach, forgive, cleanse, and deliver humanity from sin and death. Jesus proclaimed:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” (Luke 4:18-19)

But this mission would not be complete without the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus willingly paid the price for sin by dying on the cross. He rose again on the third day and ascended to heaven, preparing a place for us so that we might join Him in eternity.

The annual celebration of Christmas is more than a ritual; it is an opportunity to reflect on the significance of Christ’s birth and examine whether we align with His plan for our salvation.

The world today continues to battle chaos and wickedness as Satan works to distract and destroy. However, his time is limited. Jesus will return in glory to gather His saints and establish eternal peace.

As we celebrate Christmas, we must ask ourselves:

  • Has Christ’s birth made a difference in our lives?
  • Have we embraced the salvation He offers, or do we still view Him as a myth or legend?

Christmas loses its meaning if, after the celebrations, we remain disconnected from the salvation Jesus provides. This season is a reminder of the price He paid and the eternal joy He offers.

Let this Christmas be the time we embrace the Savior fully and secure our place in His kingdom.

Merry Christmas!
